Meninsky was born in Konotop, Ukraine. Although his family name was Menushkin, ‘it was unceremoniously entered as ‘Menisky’ by an English customs officer, whilst Meninsky himself added the second ‘n.’’ The family moved to Liverpool whilst Meninsky was a baby.
